VA Great Lakes Health Care System Announces New Director at Tomah VA Medical Center

WESTCHESTER, Ill. – Victoria P. Brahm, network director of the Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) 12, is pleased to announce that Karen Long has been selected as the new medical center director for the Tomah VA Medical Center, in Tomah, Wisconsin.
Long, who reports to Tomah VA on February 14, 2021, will oversee the Tomah VA Medical Center and four outpatient clinics. The facility provides care to more than 25,000 Veterans with an annual operating budget of $197 million and 1,400 employees. Tomah VA provides care for Veterans in 16 counties in West-Central Wisconsin and two in Minnesota.
Long was appointed acting medical center director at Tomah VA in February 2020. In this role, she leads, manages, and directs the planning and evaluation of health care services, as well as administrative and supporting operations for the medical center. Long has more than 20 years of nursing experience and 16 years with the VA. She held a series of nursing leadership roles at the Tomah VA before being named associate director of Patient Care Services in 2015. She has a master’s in nursing leadership and management from Walden University, and a bachelor’s in nursing from Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
Tomah VA is part of the VA Great Lakes Health Care System, VISN 12, with its eight medical centers, 41 outpatient clinics, eight nursing homes, and seven domiciliaries. VISN 12 offers health care services to nearly 800,000 Veterans who reside within its four-state (Illinois, Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Wisconsin, and Northwest Indiana) area. Facilities in VISN 12 operate 904 medical, surgical, and psychiatric hospital beds, as well as 1,009 community living center beds and 510 domiciliary beds.
