Great Lakes Advanced Specialty Education in Periodontics

The Zablocki VA Great Lakes Advanced Specialty Education in Periodontics (PERIO) received its initial accreditation by the Commission on Dental Accreditation in 2015..

The Zablocki VA Great Lakes Advanced Specialty Education in Periodontics is a thirty six (36) month postgraduate dental program that is a clinically focused advanced periodontics residency training program, providing training at a level beyond that accomplished in pre-doctoral training.

The Zablocki VA Great Lakes Advanced Specialty Education in Periodontics Residency enrolls one (1) resident per year at the Zablocki Milwaukee VAMC in Milwaukee, WI. Residents spend the majority of their time at the facility in Milwaukee, but are expected to travel for supplemental and diverse clinical exposure and opportunities to the Milo C. Huempfner VA Health Care Center in Green Bay, WI.

 The purpose of this program is to provide instruction and clinical experience in Periodontics at an advanced level, enabling the resident to become a trained specialist who is familiar with all aspects of the theoretical, practical knowledge, and skills pertinent to the specialty of Periodontics.

Residents are expected to use non-clinic time to review journal articles, prepare treatment plans, and create presentations. The patients are complex and the standards are high. It is expected that residents will work efficiently as the needs of our Veteran population are extensive, yet the overriding emphasis is on quality, not quantity. The dedicated and energetic resident will find unlimited opportunities to excel.
